Czech Republic and Slovakia
The Orthodox monastic tradition in the Czech Republic and Slovakia is comparatively small but historically important. It is rooted in the heritage of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the Orthodox revival in Carpathian Ruthenia and eastern Slovakia, and the twentieth-century restoration of Orthodox life after long periods of suppression. Most monasteries are located in eastern Slovakia, Moravia, and the Carpathian regions.
